This is the 82nd piece in my Industrial Heart collection, entitled, Barbed Rosette.

Like most of my Industrial Hearts, this piece starts with an anatomically correct human heart made from polymer clay - the base. With all of the components of a real human heart, it has also been made to look metallic and Industrial with its panelling and rivets. Gears, metal findings, and other various things are also added.

The entire thing has been antiqued with black acrylics to give it an aged and used feel. As always, there is a stainless steel loop in the back which will be attached to a keyring style jump ring and strung onto a necklace.

This could quite possibly be the most elegant heart I have made to date, and it could also quite possibly be my favourite. Lorna requested a "roses and thorns" theme, but she also loved gears. I went for barbed wire wrapped around a dark red rose in the front as well as some pretty gold-brass leaves, throughout. There is a single brass teardrop hanging from a antiqued brass chain, and the back has an open brass locket exposing the gears, inside.

Here was her response when she saw the photos:
O....M....G

Thank-you! :) The rose took a while to perfect, but now that I know how to make them, they are a lot more easier! :)

This really is a beautiful piece. So much detail! I'm really impressd by your fusion of anatomy and steampunk. Now that people are putting the "look" into just about everything, I've seen a few too many pocketwatches and guns. Variety like this is what we need!

Thanks so much! I know exactly what you mean - I tried to escape the whole steampunk stereotype, although I started making these hearts before I even knew steampunk existed! :) That's why I call them Industrial. :D
