I was approached by a company that was looking for a "whimsical steampunk" theme for Toyota's "Free Yr Radio", and they were interested in a few of my sculptures. After a little bit of talk, it was finalized that I would make them two sculptures - one based off my MechOwlie designs, and one based off of my Squid and Jellyfish designs.
Freelance Project #2 - The Squid. I was asked to create a "hybrid" of sorts between my Mechanical Squid, which was entirely polymer clay, and the coils of my Mechanical Jellyfish. This is what I got when I fused the two, and I think it might actually become a regular item in my shop. I'm definitely happy with the way he came out. I nicknamed him Mister Squiddy Pie.
He doesn't feature a little mustache like Sir Topham Hatt does, but it may be photoshopped into media.
Photographs of this piece will also be part of the layout on the Free Yr Radio website and used in other media, such as banners and a stage backdrop for bands to play in front of.
I sent the originals to the company, and I got an e-mail back saying that there was serious talk of an arm wrestle between the company and their client, Toyota, to see who gets to keep them. Bahahaha! I definitely got a kick out of that.
Although this creature looks to be made from metal, he is not - he is completely handsculpted from polymer clay with the addition of a few metal findings. This piece has been glazed with a satin finish for a slight sheen and durability.
It could be friends with Mr.Blob haha !
there amazing!!
