*Gasp* Yes, I actually called this piece STEAMPUNK as opposed to Industrial for a change. Why? Because it looks steampunk. It might be the gold. It might be the brass. It might be the leathery rugged look. I'm not really sure... but it just screams steampunk.
As many of you know, I am completely self-taught at polymer clay. Most of the techniques I have learned are things I sort of figured out on my own, and I don't actually own any books on the topic. Until now!
Just recently, after many peoples suggesting it, I decided to check out Christi Friesens work. She just came out with a new book about polymer clay and mixed media called "Steampunkery", and so I decided to give some of these techniques and looks a try - so her inspiration is definitely there, as you can see it. The gold and leathery look isn't something I normally play with, but I am glad I had the chance to!
It is a rugged gold heart with hints of bright sunset gold and dark brass throughout the design. There is a hint of red russet where the gears and tiny little red heart is housed, an abundance of different texturing and scratching, a leather strap, watch dial, gears, a brass chain with tiny teardrop accent, and a tiny bit of patina to finish it all off.
As usual, this piece is made out of polymer clay. It has been handsculpted without the use of molds and antiqued with deep brown acrylics. It is then finished with a layer of glaze for durability and a touch of shine.
It is roughly 1 1/2 inches high and comes on a silver plated ballchain necklace in the length you prefer.
