Gunther - Up Close

Description

This lil' guy is the third bird I have made. Günther is actually a German name, and this name translated actually has much to do with war. So I gave this lil' natural killer some missiles, and he's ready to take down the enemy.

He is made from polymer clay and is silver steel in colour, and has been antiqued with black acrylics to give a worn and greased look. But if you look closer, you will also notice that he has particular spots with a "mica" finish - that lovely natural marbling of pinks, golds, greens, and blues. In spots, he has also been stippled with a round embossing stick to give him a bit of interesting texture.

Besides rivets and panels, he has been sculpted to look like some sort of machine. Metal findings and various electronic components have been added to finish him off, and he stands rather high on his wire legs. Yes, he stands by himself. How does he balance? Well, look at how his body is posed. The good old "center of gravity" rule helps him to stand with no problems.

So what about the missiles? Well, I was in the electronic component store the other day and spotted out these strange looking things that were called "four way terminal connectors". They looked strangely like missiles, and so I picked them up.

The origin of Günther is still unknown. When I found him, he was alone, however he didn't seem to mind and even prefered it that way. He was definitely well prepared and able to take care of himself! Although he may not be related to the other two birds I have made so far, he IS the same model - v.1.0.

Günther has actually been sold. I brought him to FanExpo this year, and this lady was browsing my products... as soon as she saw Günther, she scooped him up and told me to pack him up. I was very sad to see him go, but I could tell this lady loved him very much. She already had a place picked out in her mind as to where he would sit in her house. So that made me happy. :)
