Imperfect Perfection - Front

Description

This is the 52nd piece in my Industrial Heart collection, entitled, Imperfect Perfection.

Like most of my Industrial Hearts, this piece starts with an anatomically correct human heart made from polymer clay - the base. With all of the components of a real human heart, it has also been made to look metallic and Industrial with its panelling and rivets. Gears, metal findings, and other various things are also added.

But as opposed to describing this piece in detail to you, I wanted to share with you the little story that the customer gave me that inspired this piece... and it will speak for itself.

"Once upon a time, there was a young boy whose heart was strong and hopeful, but every time he tried to give it to someone, they damaged it in some way. As he grew older over the years, his heart became more and more damaged to the point where it had literally fallen into so many pieces that he was sure he'd never be able to give it to anyone ever again. His life was lonely, and his chest was empty.

Now a man, he met someone new to whom he wished he could give his heart, but he looked at the broken pieces and knew he wouldn't be able to. He lost hope and turned them away, convinced he could never love again because his heart was destroyed.

This person, however, was not so convinced. They secretly stole the man's heart and used pieces of their own to repair his broken one, working hard to put it back together. His new heart wasn't perfect--its inner workings were exposed in some places, and some of the pieces were mismatched--but it matched theirs now. Once the man realized his heart was missing, they brought it back to him, gifting him with not only his own heart but theirs as well."

The entire thing has been antiqued with black acrylics to give it an aged and used feel. As always, there is a stainless steel loop in the back which will be attached to a keyring style jump ring and strung onto a necklace.

I bow before your ability to sculpt something that genuinely looks like a heart - I tried my hand at it a few months ago with less than stellar results. Love this one, and the story behind its inspiration. Actually, all of your hearts are beautiful. Bravo!
