Laced Up

This is the 26th piece in my Industrial Heart Collection, entitled: "Laced Up"

The entire body of the heart is polymer clay that has all of the components of the anatomical human heart, but has made with the look of metal, with paneling and rivet detailing.

This piece is really special, namely because of the subtle feminine details that I don't usually add to my hearts. This lady gave me a picture of a romantigoth, and so I instantly thought of the lace on the corset, as well as the subtle victorian flowers in the blackness of the corset.

There is crosshatch lacing starting at one side of the heart, going down and around to the other side. There are two bows, one on each side at the top of the lacing. I deeply love this look, as it really tones down the harsh industrial paneling and rivets.

On the front of the heart is a "shadow box", made from a black rubber grommit and a window made from hard plastic (less breakable than glass, for sure!). It encases several gears beneath the window, and allows you to look inside, but not touch! Hehe. The gears and surface behind the window have been glazed to give it some extra pop and shine.

I have some intricate victorian buttons a long time ago at a Victorian estate garage sale, and have used them to create some lovely edwardian flower texture throughout the heart. There is a bit of rose texturing and a lovely poppy design on the back, as well as some more ribbon and flower detailing near the laces.

I would really love to do this corsetry lace again, sometime. The effect is stunning.

The entire thing has been antiqued with black to give it a worn appeal, and it has been glazed once to allow for a touch of shine and durability.
