This is the 77th piece in my Industrial Heart collection, entitled, Life With HLHS.
Like most of my Industrial Hearts, this piece starts with an anatomically correct human heart made from polymer clay - the base. With all of the components of a real human heart, it has also been made to look metallic and Industrial with its panelling and rivets. Gears, metal findings, and other various things are also added.
The entire thing has been antiqued with black acrylics to give it an aged and used feel. As always, there is a stainless steel loop in the back which will be attached to a keyring style jump ring and strung onto a necklace.
This particular piece has inspired by this e-mail:
My name is Danielle and let me first say that I have been looking for a unique way to represent my son's congenital heart defect and your work is exactly what I want. He has what is called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, this is just a fancy way of saying that he only has half a heart. I have attached a link to a website that explains his condition in a little more detail....if that helps. He is currently 2 1/2 yrs old and has had two open-heart surgeries. His name is Griffin and he is a strong little boy.
She wanted two matching hearts - one for her and one for her husband. She also asked for the heart to have a smaller aorta, heart with heart-monitor, and the letters, "HLHS", in blue.

Very nice representation, the story is very touching to the heart as well. I must admit, this is rather inspirational to see for me, I have HLHS myself and I'm one of the extremely few older survivors. I've beaten the odds enough to be able to say that I'm turning 20 in two weeks.
That is just amazing! I am so happy for you that you have been able to beat HLHS for so long. Wow! I myself am only 22 years old, turning 23 in just a few days, actually. So you're not that far from my age!
Very nice of you Kookie!
