This is the 131st piece in my Industrial Heart collection, entitled, Maritime.
Each of my Industrial Hearts starts with an anatomically correct human heart made from polymer clay - the base. With all of the components of a real human heart, it has also been made to look metallic and Industrial with its panelling and rivets. Gears, metal findings, and other various things are also added.
The entire piece is about 1 1/2" tall and is antiqued with black acrylics and then finished with a satin glaze for a slight metal sheen. It has a loop in the top that is attached to a keyring style jumpring and is strung on an 18" silver tone link chain with lobster clasp.
Here is a little bit of the story behind the person who requested the heart:
"As a midshipman at the Naval Academy I'd very much like to discuss commissioning a custom piece with a Navy theme to it. The rope can bind the heart in some fashion, kind of to symbolize what sailors have given up for their service: their families, the freedom as normal citizens."
