*This is the new and improved strawberry gashes necklace with different leaves. I like this one a lot better!*
You may recognize the title as a song by Jack Off Jill, which is actually quite a good song. Now, I know the song is about something much different... but I took it literally, and made this.
There is a bit of a story behind this piece. For years and years, like this song suggests,
"Pale white skin with strawberry gashes all over..."
I was a victim of this for about 10 years, and it was to the point where the scars and wounds got so bad that I couldn't wear bathing suits without someone gasping in horror. I wanted to stop, immensely.
But more than anything, I wanted to bring awareness to this issue, namely because it is a growing problem in our young society.
This pendant stands for something important. The strawberry represents a flawless and beautiful surface, ripe and full of vibrance - it is YOU. The gashes are the flaws in which we inflict on ourselves when we feel hurt, lost, and alone.
It is to bring awareness that there is a problem amongst our youth, and that inflicting pain upon ourselves has almost become as common as crying and laughing.
There is another way. And the way isn't through the razor.
If you are wearing one, and someone asks what it means, tell them that it is to raise awareness of a growing problem in our young teens - let's talk about the problem, stop keeping it so taboo, and make people aware so that they know how to help those who need it.
Completely hand-sculpted from polymer clay.
Please note, to anyone who purchases one of these from my shop - a good portion of the profits made from each necklace goes towards the CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association).
wow this is just amazingly beautiful, with a moving story behind it. I struggle with this problem a lot and I think this a beautiful way of representing it and the issues with it.I may have to buy one at some point
