Onyx The Plague Rat

Description

This questionable looking creature is named Onyx and he is my first plague rat. I took the very beings that carried the bubonic plague during the Black Death and melded it with a plague doctor mask. Plague doctors were medical physicians who treated plague patients, often wearing a strange beak-like mask. A little bit of an ironic fusion, don't you think?

Most of his look is very industrial, however there are realistic aspects to him including his fur and little flesh tone feet. He has green menacing eyes that pierce your soul, as well as many textures and metal panels throughout his armor exterior.

He looks like metal, doesn't he? Actually, the entire thing is hand-sculpted from polymer clay with the addition of a few vintage watch parts and then finished with mica powders for an awesome metallic effect. Every little detail is done by hand, such as the many rivets and panels that you see. This rat is sealed with a satin glaze for a slight metal sheen and to keep it safe.

If you want to see a three dimensional view of him, check out this YouTube video that I did, here.
