Sea Jewel - Back

Description

This is the 83rd piece in my Industrial Heart collection, entitled, Sea Jewel.

Like most of my Industrial Hearts, this piece starts with an anatomically correct human heart made from polymer clay - the base. With all of the components of a real human heart, it has also been made to look metallic and Industrial with its panelling and rivets. Gears, metal findings, and other various things are also added.

The entire thing has been antiqued with black acrylics to give it an aged and used feel. As always, there is a stainless steel loop in the back which will be attached to a keyring style jump ring and strung onto a necklace.

This is the second heart that I have made for Lorna - she was the lady in which I made Industrial Heart #82 "Barbed Rosette" for - this piece, Sea Jewel, was made for her best friend Beth. Here was the response:

"Hello again!

Just to let you know the heart arrived and she LOVES it!

She asked me to email you, and let you know how happy she was with everything :D
So Thanks again Kimberly!

Love from Beth and I!!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"

Beth has a real love for pretty sea greens and blues and waves, so that gave me a good opportunity to try a new technique. I was inspired by *MandarinMoon's use of those lovely flat pebble dots in her artwork. I thought that painting them all sorts of metallic ocean hues would really finish the piece. :)

One of Beth's favourite hearts was also Ocean Blue, so I wanted to incorporate part of that heart, as well as the curls from some of my other hearts to depict lovely golden waves.

This very beautifully and well done. Reminds me of a Lovecraftian heart.
