This "greased up" gear is made from polymer clay without the use of molds. Each one is unique! This particular gear is a a mixture of bright blue turquoise and a shiny silver metallic colour, has flat teeth, and also has a slight corrugated metal texture as well.

It has been hand sculpted to look as real as possible, and has been antiqued with black to give it a worn-machinery type of look. Highly industrial, highly sleek...

1 1/2" in diameter.

how do you manage the blackened, aged look? i really want to try my hand at some steam-punk inspired works, and all credit would be given to you of course!

It's basically just black acrylic paint rubbed onto the final design and wiped off with a paper towel leaving behind the blackness in the crevices. :)

and how do you get the little gear parts? are those made of clay too or do you throw some actual bits of metal on it?

This gear that you are commenting on is just solid clay. :) No parts added.
